Moving to Kept

Start in Kept with the balances you already have

You can switch part-way through the year. Enter your starting balances, and add each unpaid customer invoice and supplier bill on its own. Then carry on with the month in the same books.

  1. 01

    Start on your switch-over date

Enter your balances as they stand on the day you switch, instead of re-typing earlier years. Kept carries those balances forward in your accounts, and you add the unpaid items separately.

  2. 02

    Keep each unpaid document separate

Bring each unpaid customer invoice and supplier bill across with its original number and dates. Each stays open under its customer or supplier, so the reports on how long amounts have been owed show each debt on its own, not one lump sum.

  3. 03

    Settle them as usual

Record cash or a cheque against an invoice or bill you brought across, or import a bank statement and match the transfer to the payment. The amount still owed, and the report on how long it has been owed, update as it is paid. You can undo the starting balances as long as none of their items has been paid.

  4. 04

    Resume recurring invoices

Set up repeating invoices in Kept and check each draft before you issue it. As the month goes on, match the bank, close the month and prepare VAT and corporate tax work from the same books; a person still files the returns.

Stop typing in receipts. Start checking them.
